democracy speech!!

October 1, 2009

Our form of government is called a democracy because its administration is in the hands, not of a few, but of the whole people. In the settling of private disputes, everyone is equal under the law. No man is kept out of public office by the obscurity of his social standing because of his poverty, as long as he wishes in the service to the state. In our private affairs, then, we are tolerant and avoid giving offense. We have had the good sense to provide for our spirits more opportunities for relaxation from hard work than other people. good taste, and the delight we find every day. It is just as natural for us to enjoy the good products of other nations, as it is to enjoy the things that we must to produce to ourselves. Our love for beauty does not make us an extravagant, and our love for things of the mind does not make us soft. Nobody need be ashamed to admit poverty, but it is shameful not to do one’s best to escape from poverty. We do not simply with regard a man who does not participate in the city’s life as one who just minds for his own business, but as one who is good for nothing.

Again, in nobility of spirit, we differ from most others in the way we conduct ourselves toward other peoples. We make friendships by not receiving kindness from others but by conferring it on others. Its conduct toward other peoples is going to be governed not by good will, but merely its grudging sense of obligation. We alone do kindness to others, not because we stop to calculate whether this will be to our advantage, but in the spirit of liberality, which motivates us.

So far as I am concerned, if you are angry with me, you are angry with one who has, I think, at least as much ability as anyone to see what ought to be done, and to explain what he sees, one who loves his city and one who is above being influenced by money. A man who has the knowledge but lacks of power to express it clearly is no better off than if he never had any ideas at all. A man who has both of these qualities, but lacks patriotism, could scarcely speak for his own people as he should.

Our constitution does not copy the laws of neighboring states; we are rather a pattern to others than imitators ourselves. Its administration favors’ of the many instead of the few; that is why it is called a democracy. If we look to the laws, they afford equal justice to all in their private differences; if no social standing, advancement in public life falls to reputation capacity, class considerations not being allowed to interfere with merit; nor again does poverty bar the way, if a man is does be able to serve the state, he is not hindered by the obscurity of his condition.

Love of honor is the only feeling does not grow old. And the last pleasure when one is weak with age is not, as some say, making money, but having respect for our fellowmen.

Dahil ako mismo ang tatapus ng corrupt constitution ng ating bansa, because the newest leadership was born for this generation.
